Attack is denounced

On Sunday, Sept. 28, The Plain Dealer covered a story on the Metropolitan Community Church, a gay church holding services at St. John's Episcopal Church. On the same page The Plain Dealer featured a story which unmasked the pervasive and brutal discrimination against gay women and men. Yet, it did not take long for the forces of sexist reaction to move, for the next day we read that the church used by gay people was vandalized. As lesbian feminists, we denounce this act of sexism.

Whenever gay citizens make gains in civil liberties, acts of right-wing terrorism attempt to force us into a veritable strait jacket. We as lesbians denounce the attack on the church used by gays and as such rise up against centuries of fear and hiding that which we are proud of: the right to love as one sees fit and the right to end the scapegoating of gays which has been the historic legacy of our enslavement.
